Woke Up Alive is the first feature-length film that I worked on, and has provided me with an enormous wealth of learning and experience. I began working on Woke Up Alive as an editor, but by the time I had finished, I was co-director, post-production manager, audio supervisor, marketing and web consultant, DVD supervisor, and founding partner in Owl Cat Pictures, the production company that arose from the film project itself.

Featured in film festivals worldwide, Woke Up Alive is an extraordinary and unique documentary film that chronicles filmmaker Mark Blacknell's soul-searching journey from America to Israel, taking in the sometimes bizarre, sometimes dangerous, and often beautiful sights and sounds of the Holy Land.

Seeking a more balanced perspective on the Middle East, Blacknell set off for Israel in 2005 with a film crew and few expectations. What followed was a fascinating documentary film about peace, nature, and a sense of optimism in a land that has become known only for violence and division.

Woke Up Alive won Best Documentary at the 2010 Treasure Coast International Film Festival in South Florida. It has also been nominated for additional awards at film festivals in Europe and Africa and sold out twice in the first week of its DVD release.
