"Our novels may not be read in Alpha Centauri, but it seems possible that some of our music will be played."
-Michael Cunningham

. . . . . . . . . .

Since most of my music is written for Envy is Blind, it's difficult to put anything together here that isn't already on an album or, at least, scheduled to be on an album... but I'll try to present as diverse a collection as I can, without repeating what's already available on envyisblind.com

Please note that all mp3s are 96khz hi-fi format. You will need a broadband connection to hear them.

experiments:

gin & music - this is why I don't drink when I write, 2004

Surrender - this song was originally written by Bill Bates of Heliosphere, but he sent a version to me in Spring 2005 to work on. I added the drum track and cello part. Last I heard, a version of this will appear on their full length album.

VST Test - my first experiment with VST instruments, 2005

Tibet - originally written in the winter of 2004, I've used this basic pattern as the background on several EiB songs, including Eccentricity below.

Still Breathing - originally written when I was in high school... for some reason I still like this song

Heartbeat of the Fallen Muse - written April 17, 2002. A shortened version - Fallen - appears on EiB's first album, but this is the full 22-minute version in all it's glory - wrong notes and harmonic distortion included. It was recorded spontaneously after walking through Dinkytown and the U of MN campus all night. Not fully awake (or sane), I arrived home, pressed record and wrote this as catharsis. To those interested, the instrument you hear is the Ensoniq Fizmo, which I sadly no longer own. I could speak volumes on this work, but I'll save that for a blog entry.
