While video editing remains my main job focus, I am also well-versed in creating custom motion graphics using Apple Motion and, to a lesser extent, Adobe Aftereffects. From text-effects to multi-layered masks and filters, I've created moving images from scratch for a number of different organizations and film projects.

Examples of motion graphics work:

Mosque photo animation

Project: Photo to video animation
Type: Motion graphics demo
Year: 2012
Description: This is a short motion graphics demo I created to show how I can turn a still photograph into simulated video. The work was done in Adobe Photoshop and Apple Motion.

911 Media Splash Logo

Project: 911 Media Intro
Type: Splash logo animation
Year: 2010
Description: 911 Seattle Media Arts Center asked me to build a short animation that they could use to introduce web videos and short film projects. Working from their original logo, I animated the lettering and design to reflect their more modern, DIY style. This was completed using Apple Motion 4.

Clip from Woke Up Alive

Project: Woke Up Alive (excerpt)
Type: Feature-length documentary film
Year: 2009
Description: This motion graphics clip comes from the ending of the documentary film Woke Up Alive. In creating this graphic, I composited the main elements of the film (represented as earth, air, fire, and water) into a final climax. What we see are four scenes of our main character, Mark Blacknell, followed by four scenes of nature in Israel. Each scene is in some way tied to one of the four elements and the spiritual journies of the filmmakers traveling across the country.

Spinergy logo animation

Project: Spinergy Arts Logo
Type: Splash logo animation
Year: 2012
Description: Spinergy Arts is a theatrical fire-performance troupe that wanted an animated logo to introduce video material online and in press kits. This design is based off their existing logo (with fire added) and music provided by Seattle musician Subaqueous.

MOHAI Animated Logo

Project: MOHAI: History Is  ________
Type: Splash logo animation
Year: 2010
Description: This animated graphic was created for the Seattle Museum of History & Industry. I was asked to design a short splash logo for their History Is _____ project, so I adapted their current logo into a multi-layered motion graphic that utilized both their original logo design as well as the clouds and color scheme of their press materials. MOHAI was so pleased with the result that they are using the animation on multiple projects beyond the original intent.

Owl Cat Pictures Animated Logo

Project: Owl Cat Pictures logo
Type: Splash logo animation
Year: 2009
Description: This is a short splash logo created for Owl Cat Pictures. I utilized the original company logo and placed it against a pixelated backdrop with film projector sounds and music added.
